Privacy Policy

Effective date: 13 August 2026

This website exists to help you navigate a Catholic wedding as the non-Catholic partner, not to collect your data. This page explains, in plain language, what little I do collect, why, and what your rights are. It is written to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Who is responsible for your data

The data controller for this website is:

Petr Votypka
Janovska 396, Prague, 109 00, Czech Republic
Business ID: 10828702
E-mail: info@marriedtoacatholic.com

I run this site as an individual based in the Czech Republic (European Union). If you have any question about your data, e-mail me directly.

2. What I collect and why

Newsletter

If you subscribe to the newsletter or download the free checklist, I collect your e-mail address. I use it to send you the checklist and occasional e-mails about new guides. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), given through a double opt-in confirmation. You can withdraw consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in every e-mail, no questions asked.

Analytics

With your consent, I use Google Analytics 4 to understand which guides people read and how they find the site (pages visited, approximate location, device type). Analytics cookies are set only if you accept them in the cookie banner; the site works fully without them. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Details are in the Cookie Policy.

When you contact me

If you e-mail me, I process your e-mail address and whatever you choose to tell me, in order to reply to you and to be able to refer back to earlier conversations if you contact me again. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in answering your message and keeping a record of what was discussed (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

When you buy a digital product

Digital products on this site are sold through Gumroad, which acts as the merchant of record. This means the purchase contract, the payment, the tax handling and the invoice are between you and Gumroad, under its own terms and privacy policy. I am the author and supplier of the content, not the seller.

At checkout you give Gumroad your e-mail address, your name, your billing country and, if you have one, a VAT number. Card details go directly to the payment processor. I never see them and they are never stored on this site.

What reaches me is your name, e-mail address, country and what you bought, so that I can answer support questions and deal with refunds. Transactional e-mails, such as your receipt and your download links, are sent by Gumroad from its own domain on my behalf.

Gumroad is a US company, so buying a product means your data is transferred outside the European Economic Area. That transfer takes place under the safeguards set out in the platform’s own data processing terms.

3. Who else touches your data

I do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or run ads. I use a small number of service providers (processors) to run the site:

  • MailerLite (UAB MailerLite, Vilnius, Lithuania, EU): stores the newsletter list and sends the e-mails.
  • Google Ireland Ltd.: provides Google Analytics 4 (only with your consent). Some data may be transferred to Google LLC in the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
  • Váš Hosting s.r.o.: hosts the website and keeps standard server logs (IP address, time, page requested) for security, based on my legitimate interest in keeping the site running.
  • Gumroad (United States): sells the digital products as merchant of record, processes the payment, issues the invoice and delivers the files. It acts as an independent controller for the purchase itself, under its own privacy policy.

4. How long I keep your data

  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe. After that, your address is removed from the mailing list.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months, then deleted automatically.
  • E-mail correspondence: up to three years after our last exchange, so that I can refer back to what was discussed if you contact me again; then deleted.
  • Purchase records: order details are held in the Gumroad dashboard for as long as the store exists. Accounting documents are kept for the period required by Czech tax law.

5. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • access the personal data I hold about you and receive a copy,
  • have inaccurate data corrected or incomplete data completed,
  • have your data erased (“right to be forgotten”),
  • restrict or object to processing based on legitimate interest,
  • receive your data in a portable format,
  • withdraw consent at any time (this does not affect processing done before withdrawal),
  • lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In the Czech Republic this is the Office for Personal Data Protection (Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů, uoou.gov.cz). You may also complain to the authority in your own EU country.

To exercise any of these rights, e-mail info@marriedtoacatholic.com. I will respond within one month.

6. Changes to this policy

If I change how the site handles data, I will update this page and change the effective date at the top. Significant changes will be announced in the newsletter.
