When we fall in love, the world seems incredibly simple. We feel that as long as we love each other, we can overcome absolutely anything. In those beautiful early days, we believe we understand each other without a single word. But as the relationship moves forward and we start planning a life together, questions we might have previously overlooked begin to surface. Questions about values, family customs, faith, and how we want to raise our children.
This website was not created to hand out dogmatic advice or lecture anyone. It was born out of a simple desire to help you open the door to conversations you might be putting off for later. Talking about important things as early as possible is not a sign of doubt. On the contrary, it is the greatest expression of love and respect you can give. It is a way to prevent quiet misunderstandings before they turn into unnecessary walls.
When one is Catholic and the other is not
If you are a mixed couple, you probably already know what it feels like when two different worlds collide. One of you lives by the Catholic faith, which comes with specific obligations, rituals, and customs, while the other might just be learning to navigate this environment.
For a non-Catholic partner, this world can initially feel confusing and raise many questions. Will I have to convert? What will I have to sign and promise? How will we handle things like raising children, intimacy, or family traditions? The goal of this website is to show you where the actual boundaries and obligations lie. We want to help you identify potential challenges and navigate them together, without pressure, and with deep mutual understanding.
For Catholic couples forging their own path
This website is also designed for those of you who share the Catholic faith but, for various reasons, are not planning a church wedding and will not go through traditional marriage preparation (often known as Pre-Cana).
It might seem that having the same religious background means you automatically agree on everything. However, the reality is that each of us experiences faith with different depth and places different weight on it in daily life. Without formal preparation, it is easy to skip crucial discussions about family life and spiritual alignment. We want to offer inspiration for conversations you definitely should not skip, ensuring you enter marriage with the same expectations.
The story behind this site
I am not a theologian, a priest, or a marriage counselor. I am just someone going through this exact journey myself. When I found myself as a non-Catholic marrying a Catholic, I spent dozens of hours searching for answers in church documents, diocesan PDFs, and internet forums. It was often confusing and exhausting.
That is why I decided to write down my experiences and share them. This website is the guide I wish I had back then. If you are curious about how our own journey began and where we are headed, you can read our story here. Many of these topics and conversation guides are universal and can help any couple looking to build a strong foundation.
An invitation to talk
Please do not view these topics as a warning or something to fear. See them instead as an outstretched hand and an invitation.
Make a cozy evening of it, pour a cup of coffee or open a bottle of wine, and just start talking. Ask each other questions you are curious about or even things you might be a little afraid of. When you start talking early, you will find that even the most challenging questions have solutions when you face them together.
